Meet Abe! He’s a nine or ten-year-old male chocolate Labrador. Abe is an English Lab with his big blocky head, big bear paws, and an otter tail.
Abe was once a loved and treasured dog with a family; he is well behaved, housebroken, and a wonderful gentleman in the house. How he ended up in a high-kill shelter, we will never know. Abe is now enjoying pampering in his foster home, along with small dogs and a cat. He loves them all, and they love him.
Abe is low-key and is excellent when left alone while his foster mom has to go to work. He’s not destructive. Abe adores his foster family’s teenage son and sleeps in his room every night. He has been great with other children that have visited as well.
Abe loves to ride in the car and sits back and relaxes for the ride. His foster says the best way to describe him is “A beautiful dog laying by your feet while you sip a glass of wine next to a fireplace at the end of the day.”
We imagine Abe would do fine with older children; younger ones may have too much energy around him. He is a velcro dog that will stay by your side and keep you company all day.
Abe is currently on some anti-inflammatory medication to help with some arthritis in his rear legs. However, he has been showing some improvement, and we hope he will continue with some light exercise and walking.
Abe had a complete exam with our vet and had a few lipomas removed, a full dental, and neutered. Abe has recovered and is ready to find himself a forever home.
Abe is a mellow, easy-going guy who wants to please his people. He will follow you around and will come to track you down if he realizes that you’re not close by. His foster thinks he’s the perfect companion for the right home.
