ADOPTED!

Meet Monica; a gorgeous purebred Golden Retriever. She is 1 1/2 years old and has a beautiful red coat. She is a lovely, affectionate, fun-loving dog. She loves to play.

Monica was surrendered by her family when they discovered their young child had severe allergies. She was left in the garage at night and spent their days outside. When the family realized this was not right, they reached to WCLRR to help find their precious dogs a new home.

Monica enjoys walks and does pretty good at not pulling; however, she could use some additional leash work. She is curious about all the new things she has been experiencing on her walks.

Monica recently discovered the pool at her foster home, and although she has not attempted to jump in, we feel it’s not long before she tries. She gets along great with the other dogs in her foster home and ignored the foster family’s cat, and seemed afraid of it! That said, we believe she would do fine in a house with cats.

Monica can get excited and sometimes will jump, so their new home must train them not to do this. She sleeps through the night on a dog bed, couch, or even your bed! She tends to steal shoes and socks but give them up quickly. However, her new home will need to be sure that shoes, socks, clothes, etc. are not left around for them to find. Having chew toys will be helpful. Nylabones, Kongs.

Monica was not exposed to many things because she seems to not understand noises and can get skittish. The new family needs to understand this and work with her to become more secure. Monica is very affectionate and likes to crawl in her foster lap on the couch and will nudge your hand to pet her.

She is learning basic commands, and her new family will want to continue working on basic commands. She is treat motivated so training will be straightforward. She loves attention and can sit for long periods being petted. It’s not unusual for her to lay at your feet or follow you around. We would love Monica to go to a home with another young dog to play with.
