ADOPTED!
Meet Buddy! He is a 3-4-year-old handsome male yellow Labrador. His family surrendered him at the shelter due to not being able to care for him. Buddy came to WCLRR extremely overweight, and it is evident that Buddy was not being fed properly or getting the exercise that he should for a young Labrador.
Buddy is extremely friendly; we are not sure what happened in his past life, but our foster is working with him and helping him learn that people and things are not bad. He is responding positively and doing well at this time. Buddy wants to please his family. He is a very trusting young boy who only wants love and will provide his new family with endless amounts of it in return.
Buddy has excellent house manners, but it seems he didn’t get a lot of basic training at his former home. Our foster is working with him on basic commands. He does very well on a leash and enjoys his daily walks.
Buddy did not understand what fetching a ball was when he got to his foster home. He is now playing fetch and getting good at dropping the ball on command. He is also learning that he has toys to play with, which he may have never had before.
His new family will need to continue working on his weight. The extra pounds are not good on a dog’s joints and overall health. Good quality food, healthy snacks, like fruit and vegetables, should be substituted for bad high-calorie snacks.
Buddy would love to be in a home with someone that includes him in their daily activities, taking him on hikes, doggy beach, and running errands. Buddy loves going for car rides. We believe Buddy would be excellent as an only dog if someone is home. He is fostered with another Labrador and gets along great with him, but prefers human interaction.
Buddy has a large prey drive and loves chasing the squirrels and lizards at his foster home. We have not been able to “cat test” him, but we don’t believe he would be fine with cats due to his prey drive.
Buddy is neutered, up to date on his shots, and microchipped.
