ADOPTED!
Meet Mattie! She is an adorable four-year-old chocolate female English Labrador Retriever. Mattie came to WCLRR by way of a local breeder who was retiring and reached out to us to help find Mattie a wonderful, loving home.
Mattie is overweight, which is common in breeders. This girl produced a few litters of amazingly beautiful puppies. She probably wasn’t fed a good diet, or she was on a self-feeder system. It’s something you should not do with Labradors as they will eat until her heart’s content.
Because of Mattie’s weight, we have not been able to spay her safely. Our veterinarian wants her to lose more pounds before the procedure. While she has been in our foster care, she has lost close to ten pounds. It is a slow process, but we know she can do it.
Mattie additionally should use a Slow Feeder bowl. Her new family will have to commit to continuing this weight loss journey with Mattie, making sure she gets down to a healthy weight. Her new family will be required to complete a spay contract, which Mattie’s foster representative will discuss with her new family.
Mattie currently lives with a few other Labradors, a small dog, and a cat. Mattie loves them all, even the cat! We haven’t found anything that Mattie doesn’t love; people, dogs, cats, and kids are all friends! She is gentle, loving, and friendly to all creatures and humans.
Mattie sleeps soundly on a dog bed alongside her foster mom. Mattie is completely housebroken and uses the doggy door in her foster home. Mattie is a low key girl. She does love a game of fetch and then chooses to come back inside and lounge. Mattie loves going for her walks in the neighborhood and enjoys the sights, smells, and passerby’s attention.
Mattie is excellent in the car. She is getting better about getting out of the vehicle using a ramp due to her weight. We don’t want excess stress on her joints.
Mattie has had a complete physical, ears treated, bloodwork, shots and microchipped, and other than the excess weight, she is a very healthy dog.
