ADOPTED!

Meet Henry! He is a handsome four-year-old male yellow Labrador Retriever who was surrendered to WCLRR when his family experienced a change in living arrangements. They wanted Henry to have a home and family who could give him what he deserved and needed.

Henry has a wonderfully balanced character. He’s a lovable dog who likes cuddling on the couch and will stare at you adoringly as he’s a pet, but he can also be spirited and fun-loving while playing fetch, tug-o-war, or wrestling.

Henry is housebroken and sleeps well through the night in a crate. When left alone, he doesn’t show signs of separation anxiety. Henry hasn’t demonstrated any destructive behaviors when by himself, in or out of the house. He’s not food or toy aggressive and takes treats gently.

Henry is an intelligent dog and knows some commands, “sit,” “down,” and “come,” and in the short time being fostered, he has made progress with “stay” and how to master the doggy door. Henry does great on car rides. However, he is not a fan of getting in, so his family will need to work with him.

Henry is really food driven and will dig through the trash to find food. He also tends to chew and pick-up items that are not safe. Therefore, care will need to be taken to ensure waste and inappropriate toys are off-limits, so he doesn’t get to something harmful.  All trash should be in a locking container or under the counter.

Henry has shown signs of running out the front door of his foster home. Behavior like that needs to be corrected immediately.  In the meantime, all doors and gates MUST be kept shut, and caution used when opening them. As Henry becomes secure and confident in his new home, this behavior will hopefully change, but for these reasons, a family with younger children would not be a good fit for Henry.

Henry LOVES walks and will get overly excited when his leash is brought out. He is powerful and tends to pull at first but eventually settles into a walkable pace. Henry has a tendency towards leash reactivity and may lunge or bark at other dogs he encounters on walks. His new family needs to work with Henry on how to greet dogs appropriately.  Henry is food motivated, so correcting his bad habits should be reasonably straightforward.

Henry is neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on his vaccinations.
