ADOPTED!

Meet Sawyer! He’s a handsome eighteen-month-old chocolate male Labrador Retriever. He and his brother Colton were surrendered to a high desert shelter because of a condition called Entropion eyes. WCLRR was alerted to them via the Facebook group “Labradors Needing Rescue/Adoption from Shelters in the USA.” and the shelter itself. We responded immediately, knowing full well they would require costly surgery.

Sawyer has healed very nicely from his surgery and recently had some touchup work, so he still has some sutures. That doesn’t stop him from being an active but well-tempered pup. He and Colton have exceptional temperaments (as all Labradors should) and settle after a few minutes.

Sawyer likes to dip his feet in the swimming pool but hasn’t taken the plunge due to his eyes. We’re sure once he’s cleared, he’ll be an excellent swimmer like his brother. These two will be water dogs for sure and will go to a home with a nice big yard to allow them to run and play all day long.

Sawyer and his brother have puppy energy as any Labrador Retriever will until two to three years old. They can get excited and knock items and small children over, so we’d prefer to place them in a home with older kids.

Sawyer can be a bit adventurous, discovering new things and chasing lizards. He enjoys being loved and hanging out with his people as well. He will need leash training, as will Colton, so his new family should plan on obedience lessons for both pups. A trained dog is a happy dog! No retractable leashes!

Sawyer is semi-house broken, so his new family will need to understand there will be some accidents, but with some work and redirection and gentle encouragement, he’ll learn to do his business outside in no time. A dog door would be preferred and can make the process go quicker.

Sawyer and his brother Colton enjoy chewing on Nylabones and chasing the ball. Please remember NO STUFFED TOYS for them. They also desire a friendly game of fetch but will need some training to return the ball to the thrower.

Sawyer is up to date on his shots. He’s been neutered, microchipped, and had a complete medical examination by our veterinarian. He also had Entropion eye surgery which has corrected the condition, so he is no longer dealing with the pain he’s probably suffered since birth.

Colton is a bit of a velcro dog, meaning he likes to be around his people more than his adventurous brother Sawyer. However, he still likes discovering new things and chasing lizards and squirrels. He enjoys being loved and hanging out with his people as well. He will need leash training, as will Sawyer, so his new family should plan on obedience lessons for both pups.
