ADOPTED!

Meet Waffles! He’s an adorable 4-month-old male chocolate Labrador Retriever mix looking for a forever family to love him as he grows into those big, floppy ears! WCLRR rescued Waffles from a shelter after being surrendered by his family when he became ill. A medical examination revealed Waffles had eaten two socks and required emergency surgery to remove them. Unfortunately, his poor little body rejected the sutures from the first procedure, and the site became infected. A second surgery was necessary to replace the sutures and treat the infection.

Waffles was extremely thin when he came to WCLRR but is well on his way to a full recovery. He is eating well and gaining weight. However, his new family needs to be mindful that he is a curious puppy. Therefore, they will need to keep SOCKS, toys, electrical wires, trash, and other potentially harmful objects out of Waffles’ reach.

Waffles is a super affectionate puppy! He loves kisses and getting love from his family. He is good with people but is not recommended for children under eight years old. He is still learning how to interact with people, and he has sharp puppy teeth.

Waffles enjoys hanging out with his foster dog siblings, but he’s a bit afraid of the cat and tends to avoid it. However, he loves Nylabones, Kongs, and other hard chew toys, all of which are great for those sharp teeth! Because he is so young, he has a high energy level, and his foster family is teaching him how to fetch to run off some of that energy.

Waffles is an intelligent puppy. He knows to sit and is crate trained, and his foster is working with him on house training. Waffles sleeps in his crate at night. He hasn’t had an accident in his crate, but since he is still learning house manners, if his foster mom hears him stirring during the night, she’ll take him outside to go potty. He is also learning to walk on a leash. His new family must continue to work with him on house training and learning to walk nicely on a leash.

Waffles’ ideal family should have the time to train and play with him. However, puppies are a lot of work, so his new family will need to be patient while Waffles learns to be the perfect dog. He would be happy to live with another dog, and a sibling might help him “learn the ropes” in both home and dog etiquette, but he’d be fine on his own as long as his people are around most of the time.

Waffles is up to date on his vaccines and microchipped. He is not yet neutered, as our veterinarian would like him to gain a bit more weight before having the procedure. Waffles will be adopted on a neuter contract at the advice of our veterinarian. Waffles’ foster rep will discuss this with potential adopters.
