ADOPTED!
Meet Owen! He is a loving, male chocolate Labrador Retriever-Weimaraner mix, approximately ten months old. Owen was surrendered to WCLRR when his family realized they couldn’t give him the time and attention he deserved.
Owen has beautiful chocolate lab coloring, the slim body of a Weimaraner, and gorgeous green eyes. He is a sweet, goofy, lovable dog and moves as if his body has grown rapidly, and he is still learning to use it! He is young, and things still surprise and scare him, but he is curious and happy.
Owen is a medium-energy dog. He mostly loves to cuddle up next to a person and be touching them. However, Owen does enjoy playing keep-away with the other dog in the house and likes a good game of tug! He will chase a ball for a while, but it’s not his favorite game, and he won’t do it for long.
Owen’s favorite thing is being with his people, and he adores being the center of attention! He does not discriminate who he will take attention from and loves adults, kids, and other dogs. Owen has met several dogs on playdates and gets along well with them. He loves playing with soft toys, chewing toys and ropes, and chewing on bully sticks. Owen will also pick up natural items from the yard to chew, such as sticks, branches, and rocks. His new family needs to watch him and ensure he doesn’t ingest anything dangerous.
Owen currently lives with another dog who is more aloof than he is, although the two get along. Owen believes it is his mission to get this dog to play, and he has been successful at it! They like to wrestle and play keep-away with toys.
Owen’s foster also thinks he secretly wants to snuggle with his foster sibling. Every day Owen finds a new tactic to get close to the other dog when it is lying down, but the other dog isn’t going along with Owen’s ploys yet! While Owen and his foster brother get along, he gets a bit jealous when the other dog gets attention. Owen follows his foster sibling around like any pesky little brother. They sometimes tussle over high-value treats like bones but always work it out.
Owen is learning commands and knows what “sit” means. His new family can teach him more commands. Owen also will need some training to learn to walk nicely on a leash. Owen is house-trained and crate trained, although he doesn’t like it when the crate door is closed and locked. Owen sleeps in his foster Mom’sMom’s room in his crate with the door open. Owen waits for his people to wake up, and he’s ready to play when they get up!
Owen’s ideal home would be one with an individual, couple, or family that are home most of the time and will let him sit next to them on the sofa and cuddle. Although Owen does prefer to be with people, he is fine when left alone. He would do well in a home with another dog, or dogs, that have a similar temperament to his and want to play, and maybe even snuggle! He has not been tested with cats.
Owen is neutered, is current on his vaccines, and is microchipped.
