ADOPTED!
Meet Kona! He’s a beautiful 8-year-old male chocolate Labrador Retriever with gorgeous brown eyes and a tail that never stops wagging when he’s getting attention and treats! Kona was surrendered to WCLRR when his family realized they couldn’t give him the time and attention he deserved.
Kona loves attention from people and will do whatever he can to get pets and love! Kona is happy and excited to see his people when they come home from work or other outings, but he’s fine in the house on his own too. His foster mom has left him alone during the day while at work, and he has been perfect. Kona hasn’t shown any interest in toys or chasing balls but loves to carry empty plastic water bottles or shoes around the house. He doesn’t chew or damage the shoes; he enjoys having them with him!
Kona is great with dogs and cats. He lived with other labs before he came to WCLRR and has been okay with the other pets in his foster home. He is currently living with two chihuahuas, one of whom has decided he is “the boss,” and Kona has been okay with him. Kona is also living with a cat, and they get along well.
When Kona came to WCLRR, he was not house-trained or leash trained. His foster mom has taught him to use a dog door and reports that while he had a couple of accidents at first, he has caught on quickly and now knows to use the dog door when he needs to potty. His new family will need to continue to work with him on house training. They will also need to spend time teaching him to walk nicely on a leash or consider getting assistance from a trainer.
Kona has been well-behaved in his foster home. He is very easy-going and doesn’t bark or try to run out the door when it’s opened. He has been caught counter-surfing a few times, so his new family will want to keep counters clear of food and items that might harm him. His foster reports that Kona takes correction well. Once he hears “no,” he’ll immediately stop what he’s doing. He sleeps in an ex-pen at night while recovering from his neuter surgery. He sleeps through the night and will wait for his foster to get him in the morning.
Kona would do well in a home with a single person, a couple, or a family with children that will give him lots of love and attention. Other pets would be great companions for him, but he would be fine on his own as well. He is accustomed to being alone during the workday, making him an ideal companion for individuals or families at work and school. They’ll be greeted with a happy, loving pup when they return home at the end of a busy day!
Kona is neutered, is current on his vaccines, and is microchipped.
