ADOPTED!
Meet Cooper! He is a gorgeous 1 1/2 year-old male Labrador Retriever with a beautiful pale yellow coat and beautiful caramel-colored eyes. Cooper was surrendered to WCLRR when his owners went through a divorce. Unfortunately, neither person could provide a house with a yard to give him the space he deserves for playtime.
Cooper’s foster family has three dogs, and he loves being part of the pack! He settled in quickly when he joined the family. He wants to be with his people all the time and is happy to bring you a toy so that you can play with him. While he loves to play, he will settle at your feet if you need to work or want to relax. He does well in large groups and is good with children of all ages.
Cooper loves his walks and playing with toys. His foster reports that he is always smiling when he’s playing! His favorites are plush toys and tennis balls that he can tear apart. Nyla bones and kongs might be better options for him, although they are not his first choice! Cooper walks well on a leash, but he sometimes pulls a bit.
Cooper is a smart boy and knows several commands, including sit, down, and no. His foster is teaching him the “come” command. Cooper is house trained, but he is still a young dog, and he has had a few accidents in his foster home. His new family should take him outside frequently to help him learn house manners. Cooper is crate trained. He sleeps quietly in a crate in a separate bedroom from his foster family and waits patiently to be let out in the morning.
Cooper is very food motivated. While this can be helpful during training, he has been known to get on counters if he thinks treats may be available! Cooper’s new family will want to keep counters clear of food and watch him when Cooper is in the kitchen! Cooper is still a puppy, and it may be helpful to both Cooper and his family if he is in a gated area if they need to be gone for long periods so that he doesn’t get up to any puppy adventures while they’re out.
Cooper is happiest with his family pack of people and dogs. His ideal home would be with an active person or family that is home most of the time. A home with one or more dogs would give him the companionship he loves. He could be fine as an only dog, but his family should ensure that he gets lots of playtime and socialization with other dogs. We do not know if Cooper has been around other small pets such as cats.
Cooper is neutered, is current on his vaccines, and is microchipped.
