ADOPTED!

Meet Mickey! He is a playful nine-year-old male chocolate Labrador Retriever with beautiful, expressive eyes and a sweet face. Mickey is an English lab with a blocky head and stocky body that is typical of this Labrador Retriever. Mickey’s family surrendered him to WCLRR when they became ill and could no longer care for him.

Mickey was overweight when he came to WCLRR, and our vets found he has hyperthyroidism. Mickey is on inexpensive medicine to treat this condition and is steadily dropping weight and becoming more active. He had a complete exam and bloodwork, and all other test results were acceptable.

Mickey is a low-to-medium-energy dog. However, he is surprisingly fast despite his weight and can run if he wants to meet another dog! He enjoys walks but gets tired quickly due to his weight, although he will press ahead because he loves to walk. Mickey’s new family should take him on regular walks to help him lose weight and increase his energy.

Mickey is a happy boy that enjoys meeting new people and is very friendly. He loves to snuggle with his foster! Mickey hasn’t been around children at his foster home, but since he gets along well with people, he would be fine in a house with older children.

Mickey loves to meet new dogs but can be a bit overwhelming to other dogs due to his size. Although Mickey previously lived as an only dog, he has been great with his foster’s three dogs. He does not compete for food and is happy lying on the floor alone or hanging out near another dog.

Mickey likes to play with toys. He will take them out of the toy basket, share them, and then rip them apart! Mickey likes stuffed toys or playing with ropes or other dog toys. He also enjoys walks and strolling around the backyard.

Mickey is house-trained and has not had any accidents in his foster home. He knows several commands, including “sit,” “stay,” and “come.” He is a good listener and generally obedient. He does pull a bit on the leash, and if he sees another dog or squirrel, he’ll try to run after it. His new family can work with him on leash manners and new commands.

Mickey sleeps on a couch in his foster’s living room or on the floor. He gets up with the rest of the dogs early in the morning but would probably be content to sleep in until there is some activity from his family.

Mickey’s ideal home would be with an active individual, couple, or family where someone is usually home and can spend time with him. Frequent exercise and a good quality diet will help him shed the extra weight, improving his mobility, health, and quality of life. He would be fine as an only dog but would be pretty happy in a home with other dogs for companionship and exercise.

Mickey is up to date on his vaccinations, neutered, and microchipped.
