ADOPTED!

Meet Mabel! She is an affectionate five-or-six-year-old female yellow Labrador Retriever with a gorgeous coat and beautiful amber-colored eyes. WCLRR rescued Mabel from a high-kill shelter. Before the shelter, it appears that she was used for breeding. She has had a complete veterinary exam and is in good health.

Mabel adores being with her people. When she first came to her foster, she was shy and confused, and who could blame her? But Mabel warmed up quickly to her foster. This sweet girl has been through a lot, but she has a lot of love to give to her people, and she is ready to share it. Mabel is highly affectionate, and once Mabel finds her person, she becomes a velcro girl that loves to snuggle. Mabel is sometimes startled by sudden movements, and she can be a bit protective and will bark but is easy to quiet.

Mabel is a low-to-medium-activity dog. Her foster has played fetch and tug of war with her, and Mabel will engage in play with some encouragement. She is still learning to play, after all! She will retrieve a ball but isn’t great about giving it back to be thrown again! Mabel loves stuffed squeaky toys and will carry them around, leaving them all over the house and yard. She enjoys a good roll in the grass too!

Mabel is not living with other dogs but has interacted with large and small dogs and cats while in foster care, and she has been OK with them.

Mabel knows “sit” and “no,” and walks well on a leash. She is house-trained and knows how to use the dog door at her foster home. Mabel is well-behaved even without knowing many commands. She wants to please her people, and her new family can work with her to learn new manners.

She will sleep on a dog bed but prefers to be on the bed with her people. She sleeps quietly through the night and waits for her people to get up in the morning.

Mabel’s ideal home would be with an individual, couple, or family where someone is home most of the time to give her the love and attention she craves. Mabel has been left alone for short periods by her foster and has been fine, but she prefers being with her people most of the time. In addition, Mabel likes other dogs and a home with another dog. They would provide playmates and companionship for her. Mabel is a sweet dog despite the hard life she has had so far, and she deserves a home where she will be well-loved.
