ADOPTED!

Meet Atlas! He is a playful eight-month-old black Labrador Retriever-Weimaraner mix. Atlas has a beautiful glossy black coat and lovely expressive eyes. Atlas was surrendered when his owner had to move to care for a relative and couldn’t take Atlas with him.

Atlas is a medium-activity dog that loves toys! He enjoys playing with his favorite antler chew and a crinkle toy, tossing them in the air and then running after them. He is also learning to fetch a ball but has not yet mastered the return part of the play! Usually, he will just run around the yard with the ball in his mouth.

Atlas lives with four foster dog siblings. He is submissive to the other dogs and shares toys and treats with them. Atlas loves his foster brothers and sisters and copies everything they do: when they take a drink of water, he does too; when they chase the ball, he wants in on the action; when they go potty, so does Atlas! His fosters feed Atlas separately from the other dogs, but this is because he eats more slowly than the others, and his fosters want to make sure he gets all his food!

Atlas loves to be with his people. He enjoys car rides and will jump into his foster’s van, ready for an adventure! But, he is also happy at home watching television and napping by your chair.

Atlas understands “no,” “go to your bed,” and “stay.” His foster is working on “sit” and crate training. His foster family can manage him very well on walks, but he does need leash training as he sometimes crosses in front of his people.

Atlas is house-trained and has not had any accidents in his foster home. However, Atlas is still young, and his foster takes him outside often for potty breaks and gives him lots of praise when he does his business. His new family should continue this practice.

Atlas is just eight months old, and he still needs supervision. Atlas will occasionally steal things left on the floor or a counter. His new family should ensure that potentially dangerous items such as medications and sharp objects are out of his reach.

Atlas has been known to bark at strangers or other dogs he does not know, but he makes friends quickly. Atlas sleeps quietly through the night in his dog bed in his foster’s bedroom. He usually waits for his fosters or the other dogs to wake up but will sometimes softly whine if he wants attention.

Atlas’ ideal home would be with an active individual, couple, or family prepared to provide the attention and training that an eight-month-old pup requires. Atlas is quick to pick up on behaviors from his foster siblings. He would do well in a home with another dog to help him learn appropriate behaviors and be a playmate.

Atlas is up to date on his vaccinations, neutered, and microchipped.
