Sally and Duncan - Happy Pups in Liz's Dedicated Rescue Family
Sally was WCLRR’s very first rescue, originally named Freedom. Liz met Jolene many years prior when she adopted a wonderful older English Chocolate, Jolene’s first foster (with a different rescue).
When WCLRR was launched, Liz needed a sibling for her tiny Golden, Grace. Sally was exactly what Liz and Grace needed — she was young-ish, high energy, and desperately needed an experienced owner (she had been returned to the same shelter twice because of her energy and lack of training).
Sally (Freedom) and brother Duncan
Besides Sally (now 8) and Grace (age 14), Liz is also mom to Duncan (age 13), a stunning English chocolate who was a grand-champion show-dog turned breeder, who was retired at age 8. Duncan was her WCLRR foster and stole her heart because he is so kind and gentle. She told Jolene she had to keep him.
Liz has been a foster mom and transporter of dozens of WCLRR labs and goldens. While money is essential to rescues, she learned the importance of having calm, loving homes for these wonderful creatures. While the logistics of picking up dogs from their former homes, moving dogs to medical appointments and amongst fosters is not easy, she delights in knowing these dogs are going to have amazing “second acts.”
Liz’s advice for anyone fostering or adopting WCLRR rescues is to have patience. Every dog has strengths and challenges, just like humans. Labradors are not one-size-fits-all — they are special and they deserve the very best we humans can give them.
